Filming in England now and set for release later this year, The Christmas Candle will mark the film debut of Susan Boyle, the singing sensation from 2009 who launched a successful music career after a surprising performance on Britain’s Got Talent.
It is believed the Scottish singer will star as the wife of the church warden, played by James Cosmo, and will sing a hymn written especially for the film.
The 51-year-old, from Blackburn, West Lothian, said: “I can’t believe I’m making a film. I’m very excited to be a part of The Christmas Candle. Everyone is a delight to work with. It’s a fantastic experience to be part of the team. I’m really enjoying getting dressed in the period costumes and stepping back in time. It’s very cold filming on location so I’m wearing long johns under my bustle.”
The film will also star Samantha Barks who shot to fame recently in Les Miserables and has just returned from the Oscars, as well as Sylvester McCoy and John Hannah.
It is based on a story by author Max Lucado and follows the legend of a village’s beloved Christmas candle and the horror that plagues the village when it disappears.
